The Screen Actors Guild Nominees and the Shocking Snubs

The SAG Awards were announced today and boy are they taking a lot of heat. I will go category by category, only for film, and share what has everyone up in arms.

  1. Best Actress went just as expected. It will likely be those five women to the finish line. We may see one of these women knocked off the list, but then you would have to choose, and frankly, that would be very difficult. The only thing I am wondering is, can Cate Blanchett sweep every award?
  2. Best Actor is the most talked about category. The shocking snubs of Robert Redford and Leonardo DiCaprio has everyone baffled, more so the Redford snub. Word on the street was that The Wolf of Wall Street did not get their screeners, the DVD viewing for each member of the SAG, out until the day before voting took place; So that was why The Wolf of Wall Street got completely snubbed. The Robert Redford snub has no explanation other than the fact that apparently he is not as strong as everyone had expected him to be. The inclusion of Forest Whitaker annoys me like no other, everything about The Butler was just mediocre. I hope that he will be left off the list for the Oscars, and replaced by Leo!
  3. Best Supporting Actress went exactly as expected. I think it will likely be those five ladies all the way to the finish line as well. If anyone gets snubbed from this category it would likely be Julia Roberts, but I certainly hope not.
  4. Best Supporting Actor gave us some unexpected nominations! Daniel Bruhl for Rush, Barkhad Abdi for Captain Philips, and James Gandolfini for Enough Said showed up. The SURPRISING snub for Tom Hanks for Saving Mr. Banks was baffling, but that could have been because he got a leading nomination for Captain Philips. I expect Hanks to be nominated in this category come Oscar time, for the other three who made it in, I am not sure. The only for sure locks now are Michael Fassbender for 12 Years a Slave and the person I want to win, Jared Leto for Dallas Buyers Club.
  5. Best Ensemble also has people going rage mode. Everyone expected American Hustle, 12 Years a Slave, and for the most part August: Osage County...NO ONE expected Dallas Buyers Club and some people thought maybe to The Butler. The only reason I think The Butler made it in to lead actor and ensemble is the fact that the cast is so big with so many beloved actors; it, along with August: Osage County is truly an ensemble piece. Best Ensemble is equal to Best Picture, and the only for sure nominees from this list are American Hustle and 12 Years a Slave, August is close to a nomination and the other two increased their chances.

The SAG awards have never 100% predicted the Oscar, they have come close, but never exact. So there is still hope for Wolf of Wall Street and some other performances that were snubbed! Here are the nominees for this years Screen Actors Guild Awards:
